From Yusualtprospectus
Welcome to YUSU's Alternative Prospectus - where you'll find all the information about courses, accommodation, campus and York in general that the University of York won't tell you!
Feel free to edit any of the information below, but remember that it is intended for York's prospective students to find accurate information about all the best and worst bits of our beloved institution, so be vaguely sensible! Consult the User's Guide for information on using the wiki software.

Academic Departments
We sent questionnaires to a selection of students from each department - most of the information in the links below is from those who replied. (Many thanks to the Boards of Studies reps!) If you're a student from any of the departments that don't have any content yet, please write some! Please only edit the entries for YOUR department, rather than just saying snidey things about other people's :p

General tips for being a University of York student
"University learning is extremely more independent than school and the rewards and intrinsic motivational drive are far greater."
"Do online shopping with your housemates; it’s cheaper, more efficient and you can't carry as much if you take the bus."
"Don’t buy text books until you are sure you need them. Read alternatives in library before buying and make use of Your:Books in Grimston House, the Students' Union second hand bookshop"
"Get involved in uni life!"
"Leeds is only 30mins away on the train and the last train is at 3am!" "Actually, the last train is 02:50. This may seem like nit-picking, but can be very important if you want to avoid sleeping at the station..." "Also, be warned that some 'trains' are in fact buses, often the 1am one!"
"The NUS Extra card is great value for York students, enabling access to even more discounts than before! There are 'student' discounts that can be accessed with your York University card. NUS Extra also includes an International Student Identity (ISIC) card worth £9 alone!"
"Costcutter does not, in fact, cut costs. Your:Shop is much better! However, if you really want to save money then you need to make your way out to one of the big supermarkets or shop online.*
"Don't take this list of tips seriously, as they are all either vacuously general or blatant advertising for YUSU products and services."
